In honor of Ghostbusters opening on July 15th, we decided to countdown our top 10 picks of Ghost Flicks. With every Pick It List we have a Flick It Pick which is a film that is in our opinion bad, so it’s flicked away like rubbage. The Flick It Pick will be listed after the Top Pick.
To be fair we will try to stay away of just listing sequels. For example if the list were about slasher films and if any of the Halloween films were to make the list, all other Halloween films are disqualified to be listed no matter the quality or lack thereof unless listed alongside the one entry. This list is a horror list of Ghosts. So no Casper will not make this list as well as Patrick Swayze’s Ghost will not be included either.
Disclaimer: This is just opinion. It doesn’t mean that your favorite movie is bad. If it doesn’t make the list is just means that it may not be ours. The great thing about opinions is that everyone has one. In the comment section feel free to let me know what your favorite ghost flicks are. Now lets get into the list.
#10 – Paranormal Activity 3 (2011)
It acts as a prequel and sequel as well as starts to flesh out a mythology to the series, to be derailed by the sequel. Its also a period piece since some of takes place in the eighties.
#9 – Amityville Horror (1979 & 2005)
A horror classic that is said to be based on actual events. The remake has its merits as well, especially since it has more scares and attempted to add to the mythology of the house. So as an added treat here is the remake’s trailer as well. It is also noted that this the first Ed and Loraine Warren case on the list, but not the last.
#8 – Haunting in Connecticut (2009)
This is the second movie to based on the Warren’s case files on this list. The seance scenes are great.
#7 – What Lies Beneath (2000)
It has a haunting beauty to it. Robert Zemeckis crafted a great mystery story as well a great ghost story about a well do-to couple who is haunted by secrets of the past.
#6 – Stir of Echoes (1999)
After being hypnotized at a party Kevin Bacon is able to see visions of a horrible truth.
#5 – Dead Silence (2007)
With a creepy old woman and a haunting score by Charlie Clouser this James Wan film is truly haunting.
#4 – The Woman in Black (2014)
Daniel Radcliffe branching out into to a different role after Harry Potter with great success. Plus nothing beats a vengeful ghost of an old woman.
#3 – Sixth Sense (1999)
The movie that made M. Night Shyamalan. With its excellent twist ending, its a great ghost story.
#2 – Poltergeist (1982)
It’s Tobe Hooper from Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Steven Spielberg together. The special effects and creepy factor are on point. Not to mention that a reported curse surrounds these series of films.
#1 – Conjuring (2013) *Top Pick
Yet another Warren Case made into a film. The hide and seek scene is worth the price of admission alone. This is James Wan’s horror opus.
Flick It Pick – An American Haunting (2005)
Although eerily atmospheric its the final reveal that ruins the film. -SPOILER ALERT-
The ghost is that of the innocence lost by the girl or a metaphor of such. It is the ghost of virginity’s past.
