After the tragic loss of Carrie Fisher last December, Star Wars fans have been wondering just how much more we would see of Princess Leia on the movie screen. Following Fisher’s death it was confirmed that the actress had completed her work on Star Wars: The Last Jedi. She however did not film any of Star Wars: Episode IX, so it was unclear if she would appear.
Just a week ago, Carrie’s brother, Todd Fisher, told reporters that the Star Wars filmmakers had asked for the family’s blessing to feature Carrie as Leia in Episode IX with unused footage, and no CGI. However, we’re now hearing confirmation that Carrie Fisher’s Leia won’t be in Star Wars: Episode IX, at all!
The Hollywood Reporter has pointed out that LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy in a statement to ABC news that Todd Fisher was “confused,” and that “Sadly, Carrie will not be in nine,” Kennedy said. “But we will see a lot of Carrie in eight.”
If that is indeed true, it begs the question what will be come of Leia in The Last Jedi? Will she ride off into the sunset a la Paul Walker or will she be referred to an remain strictly off-screen? What do you think?
